1. What Cause is
Cause is a private communications platform operated by Cause (be-cause.world). Cause exists for connections where the direct line is hard, blocked, or gone — including (but not limited to) a person and a loved one in the final stages of life, an estranged parent and an adult child, a legal professional and their client under privilege, and an inmate and their approved contact. Cause lets each party record and send video, voice, photo and text messages ("Causes") to the specific person or people they name, safely stored off any single device.
1.1 Scope of use
By using Cause, you confirm that any restricted-contact scenario (for example, correctional facility rules, court-ordered no-contact provisions, or professional codes of conduct) is being honoured on your side. Cause provides the private line; it does not override the rules that govern who may lawfully use it. Cause is not a substitute for court-approved communication in matters where such approval is legally required.
2. Who can use Cause
You must be 13 or older. If you are between 13 and 17, you confirm that a parent or guardian has read these terms with you. Cause is not intended for use by anyone under 13.
3. Your content
Everything you record on Cause belongs to you. You grant Cause a limited, revocable license to store it, deliver it to the recipient(s) you name, and display it inside the platform features you have chosen (private link, Family Vault, or public Cause Web). Cause never sells your content. Cause never uses your content in advertising unless you tick the explicit opt-in when creating that Cause.
4. Recipient behaviour
People who receive a Cause link agree to the same protections. They may not download, screen-record, or redistribute your Cause outside the platform. If they do, they are personally liable, not you and not Cause.
5. Payments
Cause offers optional paid packages ("Media Kit") for downloads and premium features. All payments are processed by Stripe. Cause never sees your card details. Subscriptions renew until cancelled; you can cancel from your Library at any time.
6. Prohibited uses
You may not use Cause to harass, threaten, defame, or commit illegal acts. You may not upload content that infringes another person's rights, contains child sexual abuse material, or is intended to deceive.
7. Safety cases
If Aura's situational awareness flags your Cause as evidence of domestic violence, abuse, or immediate danger, Cause will surface support hotline information but will never contact authorities on your behalf. You remain in control of your Cause.
8. Termination
You may delete your account any time from your Library. If you break these terms, Cause may suspend or terminate your account. Deletion removes your active Causes; backups may be retained up to 90 days for legal compliance.
9. Limitation of liability
Cause is provided "as is". To the maximum extent allowed by law, Cause is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages. Total liability capped at the amount you paid Cause in the 12 months prior to any claim.
9.1 Emotional wellbeing & unintentional suffering
Cause exists to hold moments that are, by their nature, tender — final words, grief, love, memory. In the ordinary course of doing what Cause is designed to do, using it may bring up sadness, longing, upset, or unexpected feeling. You accept, in agreeing to these terms, that Cause and its makers are not liable for any unintentional emotional suffering, distress, or psychological effect that arises from the intended use of the platform (recording, receiving, viewing, or sharing a Cause). Cause will always try to hold you gently; but the feelings that surface are part of why Cause exists at all, and they belong to you. If you need someone to talk to, Aura will surface the nearest human support line, always.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where you signed up, or if not determinable, the state of New South Wales, Australia.
11. Changes
Cause may update these terms with 30 days notice. Continued use after notice means acceptance.
